22 aprile 2011: Giornata mondiale della Terra (Earth Day)


Oggi, 22 Aprile 2011, si celebra la 41esima edizione del giorno della Terra.
E’ stato il senatore democratico Gaylord Nelson nel 1970 a proporre per il 22 Aprile la giornata mondiale della Terra, un giorno in cui il mondo si ferma per ricordare che l’uomo è solamente un ospite e ha il dovere di preservare la natura che lo circonda.
L’iniziativa si è allargata nel 1990 al di fuori dai confini statunitensi, quando il coinvolgimento di ben 141 stati ha conferito al Giorno della Terra una dimensione internazionale. Ogni anno il 22 Aprile organizzazioni in tutto il mondo promuovono manifestazioni ed eventi atti a sensibilizzare le persone sulla salute del nostro pianeta ed iniziative a sostegno della protezione e della sostenibilità ambientale.

Madre Natura, Madre Terra, Dea Madre, in inglese Mother Earth, sono i vari nomi con cui viene chiamata quella figura a cui si attribuisce la nascita e la gestione di flora e fauna, cioè le piante, i prati, i fiumi, i mammiferi, gli uccelli... tutto ciò che compone la Terra, il pianeta in cui viviamo.

La nostra Terra è generosa con noi, ma l’uomo, a volte troppo preso dal progresso, si dimentica che è grazie alla Natura che possiamo vivere.

Una canzone recita “Che mondo meraviglioso” (What a wonderful world di Louis Armstrong) e se ci fermiamo ad osservare un fiore sbocciare anche noi vedremo quanta bellezza c’è in ogni singolo petalo.

Portate il “verde” nella vostra vita e in quella dei vostri amici!
